Superhero Movie Countdown - No. 4

Today I continue my superhero movie countdown with my favorite Marvel film.

No. 4 - Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
Starring: Chris Pratt, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana, and Dave Bautista
Director: James Gunn
Quote: "Really? Well, on my planet, we have a legend about people like you. It's called Footloose. And in it, a great hero, named Kevin Bacon, teaches an entire city full of people with sticks up their butts that, dancing, well, is the greatest thing there is." - Peter Quill
About: We're more than a dozen films into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with no signs of stopping any time soon. There have been a lot of different films released, and you could make a case for several of them as being the best. But, for me, the best is "Guardians of the Galaxy." I've heard all the cases against it, chief among them being that it's a rip off of "The Avengers" and/or "Star Wars." I can see the parallels, but I don't buy it. What really helps it stand out for me is the tone of the film, which is incredibly fun. The characters are having fun, the movie is light and fun, and that atmosphere helps it be the most enjoyable of the Marvel films. I am not as high on the Marvel Universe as some other films (hence why my favorite Marvel film is only No. 4 on the list), but I think "Guardians of the Galaxy" conveys everything they can do well, and everything audiences want in a film. Many people have it at or near the top of their list, too. It starts with Pratt, who was an inspired choice in the lead role and really helps the movie hum along. There's a great supporting cast here, too, and there's plenty of room for adventure with this quirky group of heroes.
Rating: PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action, and for some language.
