Superhero Movie Countdown - No. 9

We're inside the top 10 now.

No. 9 - Iron Man (2008)
Starring: Robert Downey, Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jeff Bridges
Director: Jon Favreau
Quote: "Iron Man. That's kind of catchy. It's got a nice ring to it. I mean it's not technically accurate. The suit's a gold titanium alloy, but it's kind of provocative, the imagery anyway." - Tony Stark
About: Back in 2008 superhero movies were taking off, but no one was sure what to make of Marvel Studios jumping into the fray. They had a grand plan, and it all began with "Iron Man." But would their movie franchise really take off? Would it work? Could a franchise be built around Robert Downey, Jr.? All those seem like dumb questions now, but it's because of how perfect Downey was, and how great this movie did in setting the tone. Is it the best of these Marvel films? No. But it holds a special place in my heart, and on this list, because of the daring it took to make the movie and to kick-start this grand vision of interconnected films that we now know as the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Rating: PG-13 for some intense sequences of sci-fi action and violence, and brief suggestive content.
