Superhero Movie Countdown — No. 14

Today I continue my Superhero Movie Countdown with a Christopher Reeve classic.

No. 14 — Superman II (1980)
Starring: Christopher Reeve, Margot Kidder, and Terrance Stamp
Director: Richard Lester (Richard Donner, uncredited)
Quote: "Good afternoon, Mr. President. Sorry I've been away so long. I won't let you down again." — Superman
About: Christopher Reeve is probably the most famous actor to don the Superman mantle. He starred in four films, which serve as some of the definitive films of Superman. Richard Donner kicked off the cinematic world in 1978, but it's the follow up in 1980 that is my favorite of the Reeve films. It has such a rich story. This is the showdown between Superman and Zod (Stamp). It also heightens the relationship between Clark and Lois (Kidder), taking the story in an interesting direction. It is my second favorite Superman film, and is one that's still enjoyable today. Sure, it's from a time when these movies were a little cheesier and little lighter in tone, but that's why it works. Plus, Reeve's performance is a classic.
